Introduction

Although it can get pretty scorching from June to August, nice days in Nevada are about as easy to find as tourists in Las Vegas. And with all that good weather, residents and visitors alike are left with almost half the year to enjoy it, barring any significant precipitation, which is already rare since most of the state is desert. So what are you and your dog to do with all those golden days in The Silver State? Well, we're here to help you answer that question the best way we know how: with a list of some of our favorite spots and activities so you can have mo' fun in the Mojave.

Activity description
Sure, on a nice day you can go for a walk just about anywhere, but why not do some good in the process? DogFest Walk 'n Roll is a great way to get some exercise, do some socializing, enjoy some nice weather and do something for charity. Originally started to help support Canine Companions assistance dogs, it's certainly a great cause for dog lovers as well. Getting registered is free (although you can also do your part by donating if you so desire) and if you're unwilling or unable to do the walk itself, you can always bring your pup and help out by volunteering.
Step
1
Determine your role
The first step is making a decision as to how you'd like to participate. You can register as an individual, form a team, join a team, or volunteer, all of which takes only a few simple forms and commitments and all of which (barring a few types of volunteering) are dog-inclusive once the day arrives (unless they're particularly computer savvy). Once you've figured out what you want to do and signed up, you'll have to follow a few extra role-dependent steps such as creating a fundraising site for those who register as individuals or plan to form a team, all of which are detailed on the organization's website. Once you've got all the digital work done, you're ready to participate in person!
Step
2
Walk 'n roll
Once the day arrives, double check the schedule and plan accordingly so you arrive on time, grab your dog, their leash and some dog bags and hit the road! Once you arrive, check in with organizers so you're accounted for and are given any extra instructions necessary for the day, then get your gear on and wait for the walk to start. Once it does, well, walk! Afterward, there will be numerous vendors set up for you to grab food and drinks at, space for you and your dog to play, and lots of time to meet some new people and network so you're up-to-date on any other similar events!

Activity description
While you can take your dog to just about any dog park, you'll always be at the mercy of the randomness of the other dogs and their owners, which can mean poor behavior, irresponsibility, and a bevy of other unfortunate circumstances. In contrast, you can become a member of The Hydrant Club, a semi-exclusive club of educated owners and well-behaved dogs. If you and your dog aren't those things yet, don't fret! The Hydrant Club also offers classes and training so both you and your dog can take the necessary steps to be active members and better yourselves in the process. It's not cheap but it's also certainly not expensive, is perfect for sunny days when you can use the play area to its full extent, and if you enjoy it enough and are staying or living close by, you can make it a permanent place to learn and play with a tenured membership.
Step
1
Get approved
The very first step to becoming a member is submitting your paperwork, which is as easy as hopping online and filling out a few forms to confirm your, your dog's and your vet's information. Once you've been approved in the initial stage, you'll need to pass a behavioral screening (both your dog AND you) to make sure you're both good candidates for the facility. Should either of you fail, there are classes and training programs you can enroll in to improve behavior or socialization - which, should that be the case, would be an appropriate second step.
Step
2
Get in and get down
Once you've jumped through all the necessary hoops and been accepted, you can fully enjoy all the club and facility has to offer. For something fun to do with your dog, you can enjoy nearly 15,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor play space, which means lots of room to move and lots of new friends to make, both human and canine. You can also sign up for a class or even shop for new toys in their store, the products of which have been carefully selected by the facility's owners and experts. The hours are quite extensive so you'll have more than enough time to enjoy your membership!

Red Rock Canyon

Activity description
Of all the things in Nevada to see and explore, Red Rock Canyon has to be near the top of the list. It is easily one of the most beautiful parks in the region, complete with sprawling desert sands, colorful rocky outcroppings and tons of interesting plants and animals. Of course, it doesn't hurt that there's also a ton to do, including checking out the visitors center and taking a scenic drive, plus hiking, biking, and camping. It's a cheap visit at only $15 for a day pass with a vehicle, can be as labor-intensive or easy-going as you want or need, and can last as long or short as you like.
Step
1
Plan your trip
The first step is simply figuring out what you'd all like to do while you're there. With all the options available, you'll need to have an idea of what you're interested in and capable of, and the same holds true for your dog. Some of the hikes can be pretty strenuous and challenging, so you'll want to do research beforehand to make sure you're able to enjoy them properly. The park's website is a fantastic resource for figuring all of that out, as it lists each hike, the overall difficulty, length, time, and even what you'll likely see, giving you the perfect grasp of what you're getting into. Maps are easy to download/access on a smartphone but can be printed out just as easily if need be. Research the hikes and pick a few you'd like to try, then grab a map so you can properly navigate once you get there. Then, pack your bags - most importantly water, sunscreen, leashes, bags, and something for your dog to drink out of - and hit the road.
Step
2
Hike it
Once you arrive, you'll want to check in at the Visitor's Center to review the local weather before hitting the trails. It's also a great resource for last minute supplies as well as recommendations on the hikes, should you be open to changing your current itinerary. Once you've got all the information and supplies you need and paid the proper fees, you can drive out to your first destination and get your feet on the ground. Then, enjoy! All of the hikes boast different forms of gorgeous scenery for you to enjoy and interesting plants and animals to stop and look at. Just make sure you clean up after yourself and your dog and leave nature's beauty the way you found it.

More Fun Ideas...

Check out a "Barkery"

Yes, you read that correctly. It's the doggy version of a bakery (except it's still people baking the goods). Three Dog Bakery and Woof Gang Bakery are great spots to check out some fancy treats and even buy some cool, unique and tasty products to take home.

Do a Dog Park Tour

Most of Nevada's dog parks are concentrated around Las Vegas and Reno, so pick one and go check out a few in a row and see which ones you like best so you can plan for repeat visits or tailor them to the weather, proximity, and more.

Conclusion

Whether you're just visiting or are a permanent resident, Nevada has some great spots for you and your pooch to check out on one of the state's many nice days. So if you're ever lost for ideas on what to do, feel free to use our list, suggestions, and resources as a starting point and turn those silver linings into golden days in The Silver State.
