Introduction

However, your pup may also be a little mischievous which means you need to keep them busy and happy to maintain a sense of control. Activity description
Eskapoo's are a loyal breed of dog. They like to protect their family, however, are also gentle and easy to train and control. This combination makes for the perfect watchdog. Eskapoo's are not overly aggressive so they will not take their job of watchdog too far and will remain true to their training when instructed. Teaching your Eskapoo how to be a watchdog is basically free (you just need to buy some treats!) and you can do it anytime you'd like. Consistency in training is important, so start on this watchdog adventure when you will have a few weeks to keep practicing and you'll have a great watchdog in no time!
Step
1
What to watch
Before beginning on your Eskapoo's watchdog adventure, decide what you would like your pup to alert you to. Do you want your dog to bark at every stranger or just start barking along with the doorbell? Maybe you would rather have your dog skip the barking and just move to sit right in front of you in a protective manner when a new person is around. Decide how you would like your dog to protect you and then get started on training.
Step
2
Commands and actions
Teach your Eskapoo the command you would like to use when you want to trigger their watchdog tactics. Do you want to say "help" or "stranger" or simply "bark"? Pick a word and associate it with the action you previously decided on. Use lots of treats and repetition where you say the command and aid your dog in performing how you'd like. It may take a few weeks but soon your dog will bark when they hear the doorbell, sit in front of you if you say "help" or woof at the sound of the word "stranger" - whichever action you two have worked hard to learn.
Step
3
Practice
Enlist a few friends and family member that your dog may not know well. Have your helpers act as "strangers" and use them to set up scenarios in which you would like your Eskapoo to protect you. Make sure to be well equipped with your dog's favorite treats and remain in control throughout the training. Reward your Eskapoo when they act as the guard dog you want and correct their behavior when needed. Soon, your Eskapoo will be ready to protect you and your house and they will be very excited to have such an important job!

Chew Toys
Activity description
One trait of Eskapoos is that they love to chew. These pups would chew on anything if they could! However, as you may already know, this can be a terrible habit to deal with. One way in which Eskapoo owners prevent their dogs from chewing is to keep them busy and always on the go. When your dog gets to exercise and be entertained, they are less likely to have destructive habits like chewing. Yet you may also want to find a chew toy for your dog for those times they just can't resist gnawing on something. Finding the perfect toy is fun, inexpensive and you can do it anytime!
Step
1
Options
Begin by searching for a variety of chew toys that your dog may enjoy. There are many types of chew toys to choose from and you may be surprised by which one your dog loves the best. Grab a soft stuffed animal toy, a rubbery toy and also a real bone to give your dog a few good, diverse options. Take a few recommendations from pet store employees as well!
Step
2
Toy choice
Bring the toys home to your dog and have your pup sit and stay as you lay the toys out on the floor for your Eskapoo to observe. Let your dog sniff them all and see which toy they are immediately drawn to. While your dog may choose one toy right off the bat, they might opt for a different one in the long run so leave all the toys out and keep an eye on your dog and observe what toy they are really enjoying.
Step
3
Stock up
Once you know which toy your dog really enjoys, buy a few of the same one to have on hand. Eskapoos can be really destructive chewers and they may be able to chew through even the toughest chew toys. It is a good idea to have a few extras for when one gets fully destroyed. At least your Eskapoo is chewing on a toy and not your furniture though!

Activity description
Eskapoos are known to be high energy dogs which means they need a lot of daily exercise. While you can opt to toss your dog a ball or let them run around in your yard on their own, why not join your Eskapoo on an exercise plan. Both Poodles and American Eskimo Dogs are known to be runners which means Eskapoos will share the trait of their parent breed. If you are also looking to get a little more exercise into your day, running with your pup is the perfect way to do so! Start this habit when the weather is warm so you don't get deterred quickly!
Step
1
Slow start
If you and your dog are new to running together, it is best to start off slow. While you may be able to run a marathon and your dog can sprint extremely fast, running longer distances together can take a little practice. Plan your first run together to be a short one mile jog. See how you and your dog feel when running side by side.
Step
2
Longer, faster, further
Build on your distance each week by going a little further on each run. Follow a running training plan so you are sure to hit any of your running goals. As you run, always be aware of your Eskapoo and how they are feeling. Is your dog racing ahead or lagging behind? Respond to your dog's feelings accordingly (maybe you should try to go a little faster?). As your run each day, the runs will get easier and faster naturally.
Step
3
Race
Sign up for a local road race that allows you to run with your dog. Only choose races that are in your comfort zone and your dog's as well - you don't want to push your pup too much! But hey, maybe there is even a prize for first dog! Road races make great goals for you and your dog and you should try to sign up for as many as you can. This will keep your habit up and make you run with your Eskapoo every day!

More Fun Ideas...

Spa Day

With all that fluffy fur, your dog will definitely need to get washed regularly. Your pup may also enjoy a quick full body massage! Make a spa day for your pup right in your own bathroom!

Cuddle Session

While Eskapoos are big, energetic dogs, they still enjoy a good cuddle session every now and then. Grab a good book or turn on a good movie and snuggle with your Eskapoo.

Conclusion

Eskapoos are quite the energetic breed and while they are such great pets thanks to their loving, fun nature, you will definitely need to keep your pup busy in order to curb any bad behaviors due to lack of exercise. All of these activities are a perfect place to start and your dog will love whichever one you try first. So try out a few chew toys, go for a nice run or train your pup to guard your house- there is so much you can do with an Eskapoo!
