Activities For Miniature Bulldogs

Introduction

We bet your Miniature Bulldog is adorable and fun to do things with, but just like larger Bulldogs, some activities are challenging for your pooch to enjoy. For example, you cannot take a Miniature Bulldog out to play fetch on a very hot day because of their snub nose, (called brachycephalic) which makes it difficult to breathe. Your Mini Bully will never be a jogging partner or biking buddy. However, despite their lack of physical endurance, there are many fun things that you can do with your pooch. Even snugging on the couch and watching a movie together is considered an ideal activity for your robust buddy. They probably love napping more than walking anyway!

Activity description
Your Miniature Bulldog probably loves going for rides in the car. What dog doesn't like seeing new scenery? However, a real treat for this curious pup is a drive-in movie. Many towns across the country still have drive-in movie theaters. You can load your Miniature Bulldog into the car and head out for a night at the movies. Once there, you can snuggle together in the car, watch people in the other autos, and wait for the movie to start. Pack plenty of treats for both you and your dog to enjoy during the movie. If it's a warm evening, you can even sit next to your car in a lounge chair and your dog can lay beside you while you watch the film in the open air. Now, that's a cheap date night!
Step
1
Movie night
Just because you are going to a drive-in movie does not mean that you will be spending the whole time in your car. If it is a nice night, many people sit beside their cars in lawn chairs to watch the show. Be sure to keep a leash on your dog, especially if you leave your car. Most drive-in theaters have areas where your dog can also stretch their legs and take a break during intermission.
Step
2
Treats
At home, your Miniature Bulldog most likely enjoys munching on snacks while you watch a movie together. Remember to bring some doggy treats to the drive in for your dog to eat. Human popcorn and candy are not healthy for a canine so you should avoid giving human snacks to your buddy while you both watch the flick. Doggy approved treats will make your pooch happy. Bake some homemade doggy muffins before you go, for an extra special snack!
Step
3
Driving home
If you have enjoyed a late night drive-in movie with your pooch then the ride home can also be fun. Make sure your dog is in a doggy car safety seat or securely housed in a dog crate. Then you can roll down your windows and let the breeze blow into the car. Your dog will probably love the wind in their hair and enjoy watching the passing lights as you head home after a relaxing evening together.

Activity description
Miniature Bulldogs love toys; why not take your pooch toy shopping for a few new items? If the weather is rainy, hot or cold, then a day at the store is often the ideal outing to choose. Many pet stores welcome dogs. All the more reason to take your dog along and let them pick out the toy that catches their eye! Shopping at a pet supermarket is also a great way to allow your dog to see and associate with other canines in a safe environment. New toys and a chance to meet a friend - it's a day in doggy heaven, all for the price of a toy.
Step
1
Arrival
You have several ways that you can walk the aisles together while perusing the goods. You can let your dog walk on a leash at your side or they can ride in one of the shopping carts. If you own a doggy stroller then your Miniature Bulldog might enjoy lounging in the padded comfort of the stroller while you explore the various items at the retailer. This is a good exercise environment on a rainy day, however, so if their daily walk is out of the question due to inclement weather, then get the exercise in while here.
Step
2
Toy selection
Picking out a toy is the fun part of the whole shopping process with your Miniature Bulldog. Though finding the right toy can sometimes be a process of trial and error, this breed best suits toys that are easy to pick up (their crowded teeth can sometimes make it tough to pick up certain items) and toys that do not block their brachycephalic noses. Kong toys that squeak are often a fun choice as are balls with a fuzzy outer layer that allow for easy carrying around.

Activity description
Miniature Bulldogs do not tolerate excessive heat but they love playing in the water on a hot day. Yes, you can take your beloved furry buddy to a lake or pond to dip a paw. An afternoon at the beach is also a great experience for your pooch as long as you bring along drinking water and an umbrella for shade. However, you don't have to travel a long way from home to play in the water. Most Miniature Bulldogs love water so much that they will be happy if you hook up a small sprinkler to your hose and have some water fun in the privacy of your own backyard. It's free, it's fun, and it's a barrel of laughs!
Step
1
Hook up the sprinkler
If this is your Miniature Bulldog's first experience with a sprinkler then you might need to take it slow because your pooch could be afraid of it. Allow them some time to investigate the sprinkler before you start to play. When you first hook up the sprinkler, turn on the water slowly and do not allow it to shoot out of the sprinkler too quickly. Any sudden bursts of water might frighten your canine buddy.
Step
2
Funtime demo
You might have to show your dog exactly how it is done when it comes to playing in the sprinkler. Get wet right alongside your pooch! Play a game of fetch in the spray of the water or set up a mini hurdle to traverse as the spray goes overhead. Offer words of encouragement to coax your Miniature Bulldog into the water. Most Bullies work for sheer praise and they want to make you happy.
Step
3
Play time
Throw a few toys into the water to encourage your pooch to get wet. If your dog has a favorite ball, then toss that into the flow of the sprinkler. You could even run into the water to retrieve the toy if your dog doesn't want to get wet at first. With Miniature Bulldogs, they may be reserved at first, but once they start getting wet they love it. It's a great way to cool off and have some fun together on a warm day.

More Fun Ideas...

Tug of War

Miniature Bulldogs are notorious for loving a good, old-fashioned game of tug of war. You can use an old sock or a canine-approved toy that is designed for the game. Some dog trainers will advise you against playing a tugging game with your canine, but it seems to have special meaning to the Miniature Bulldog. A Bully will run over and grab the toy to beg endlessly until you relent to one game that quickly turns into ten games. How can you say no to your Bully's sweet and pleading face? One of the great things about the tug of war game is that you can play it at home while you are sitting on the couch.

Spa Day

Some Miniature Bulldogs have a slight doggy odor if you don't give them frequent baths. Across the nation, doggy spas are springing up where you can take your pooch and bathe your furry buddy yourself. The facilities offer doggy style bathtubs, blow dryers, shampoos, conditioners, and other items to make your furry buddy feel like a million bucks. You can bathe your pooch and then blow then dry. When they are all done, you can even spritz them with doggy cologne. Don't forget the nails!  Why not have a little bit of fun and paint your dog's nails a bright color?

Conclusion

Miniature Bulldogs might be smaller than their larger counterparts, but they don't seem to know it. They have the heart of a much bigger dog. Bullies love to be with you on a daily basis having fun and enjoying every single adventure. You just need to make sure that they don't overdo it or start to overheat. Usually, a simple activity that doesn't require a great deal of physical exercise is ideal for your pooch. Also, sometimes simply snuggling on the couch together or taking your dog for a walk are great ways to bond.
