bicycle
helmet
leash
a bottle of water
Activity description

Since both you and your doggo NEED to work out (or at least have any kind of physical activity), why not go cycling? It’s definitely more fun than running, you can cover more ground, and you can explore new places that you might not find on a simple run. Cycling is great for people of all ages, and dogs love it! Of course, your dog won’t be the one who pedals, but they will nonetheless use up all that extra energy and will be super happy that they get to run as fast as their heart's desire!

Step
1
Get a bike
Well, naturally you will need a bicycle for this one. If you don’t already own one, get a good bike that is fit for your weight and height to avoid breakage and accidents. Make sure to have the safety gear on, or at least put on a helmet. Also, get a good leash for your doggo, or just let them roam free if you are in nature (where there is no traffic or other people).
Step
2
Go on a test ride
Before venturing on to a new bicycle adventure, do a trial run to teach your dog how to behave next to a bicycle. They need to understand that they cannot run in front of you, that they cannot get tangled in the wheels, and that they have to keep a safe distance. Once your pup has figured out the basics, it’s time for the real deal!
Step
3
Cycle, baby!
Finally, you can go out into the world and cycle your heart out! Your doggo will be so happy that they get to run around and be quirky with you! Not only will your dog get the exercise they need, but you will also build your leg muscles, burn some calories, and be fresh and ready for new gaming conquests. Fresh air does wonders for the brain, and both of you will sleep much better after spending a few hours outside, activating those muscles.

Geocaching

small trinkets - notes, pendants

leash
Activity description

What is this strange word, geocaching is it? Why yes, geocaching is super fun, stimulates the brain, and most of all, gives you some much needed exercise. As a gamer, you sit in your chair all day long, and that is perfectly fine, however, you must include some form of physical activity each day to avoid many health problems that sitting causes. Not only that, but your doggo needs their fun too! So, why not try geocaching? This is a fun activity in which you would use GPS or other methods to search for hidden containers called caches. When you find a cache, you will find a logbook inside it which you will sign and put back where it belongs, and optionally, add small trinkets that will make the next geocacher happy! Best of all, your doggo can be your faithful companion on this adventure, and help locate the caches, all while getting the exercise they need!

Step
1
Get an account
Get an account. First off, get yourself a geocaching account. There are many apps out there that offer this, so pick your favorite one. Next, you will obviously need a smartphone with a GPS (but, let’s face it, all smartphones have that nowadays). Once you have the app installed and you have created your account, figure out where the caches are. A map will show you where exactly to go and find them, so note that down and create a plan. Figure out how you will reach the destination, get a leash and step outside!
Step
2
Search and navigate
Search! Now that you have the destination in mind (and phone), time to get out into the unknown! Get your doggo and go on a unique scavenger hunt. Navigate your way using GPS and try to reach your destination. Once you’re there, employ your pup’s keen senses to find the small cache box and leave a small trinket for the next lucky finder.

Treasure Hunt

Any Day
Cheap
Easy
2 hrs
Items needed
toys
treats
Activity description

A gamer such as you loves a challenge, and that is also the case with your furry friend. The little brain games will not only freshen up their mind, but also raise their competitive spirit, and make them think clearer. Moreover, these games will strengthen the bond between the two of you. So, a simple treasure hunt can be a perfect activity for you two! How does it work? Very simple. Hide the toys, treats, or any other trinkets you can think of and have your dog search for them. Make sure to include a lot of praise and love whenever they manage to find the hidden piece. You can play this game indoors or outdoors, the world is your hiding ground!

Step
1
Teach the game
First off, take your doggo’s favorite toy and hide it somewhere in plain sight (okay maybe not too plain). Make sure they are looking. When you are done, have your dog retrieve a toy. When they do, praise them, pet them, and give them a tasty treat. This way, you are making sure that your pup understands the game, at which point you can level up.
Step
2
Add challenge
Next, make the game more challenging. Hide the toys, healthy snacks, and an occasional naughty treat. If you are indoors, get creative! Hide the items under the sink, under a pile of laundry, get an old cardboard box and use it as a blocker for the toy. If you are outside, well my friend, the world is your playground! Bury the toys, hide them in tall grass, mask them with other stuff you find in nature, the options are endless!
Step
3
Seek and sniff
Now that your pupper understands how the game works, time to put those skills to the test! Once everything is hidden away, release the Kraken and let the games begin! Your dog will have loads of fun sniffing, digging, searching, and finding the treats and toys, and you will be a proud parent every time they manage to retrieve the treasure. Keep rewarding them with hugs, kisses, and low calorie treats whenever they manage to find a well-hidden item, and you are golden.

More Fun Ideas...

Switcharoo

Instead of taking a normal walk, try spicing things up a bit. Start with strolling, then move on to speed walking, then to light walking, then running! Switch things up as you go and your dog will love the unpredictability of your actions. Bonus points if you do all this on the beach – it is much harder to run on the sand!

Swimming

Once a week (or more!) why not go out for a swim? If you have a dog-friendly pool in your neighborhood – amazing, go there and have some fun! If not, rivers or the sea will do just fine. Just make sure you don’t go too far, you don’t want anything bad to happen!

Conclusion

As you can see, being a gamer does not mean that you have to fulfill the stereotypical expectations of a pale human hunched down on the chair always thinking about the next game milestone. Yes, gaming is fun, it develops the brain, but also, you know that sometimes you need to leave the online world and spend some quality time with your best friend - your little poopoo. Getting some exercise and some outdoor fun will benefit the both of you and make your love even stronger and meaningful!
