Activity description

Scoland Terriers are active little dogs that require a lot of exercise to get all that energy out in a healthy way. Apart from taking long walks and playing various games outside, what happens when the weather is terrible, and you just cannot get outside and play? In those cases, you need to get creative and think about a fun activity indoors to keep your dog entertained and keep the exercise levels high. Luckily, with a little bit of creativity, you and your Scoland can play a fun game of Hula Hoop even when the rain and snow prevent you from spending a lot of time outside!

Step
1
Teach!
First off, you need to teach your pupper how to play this game. Start by placing the hula hoop on the floor and encourage your doggo to walk through. Once they do, reward them with a delicious treat, but keep it low calorie! The last thing your small dog needs is more food than they need, so as to prevent weight gain, keep those treats healthy!
Step
2
Challenge!
As your pup figures out that they are supposed to go through the hula hoop, make the game more challenging by raising it from the ground a little bit. When the pup walks through again, give them a treat and raise the hula hoop even more. Keep doing this until your doggo can’t reach the hoop anymore, and spice the game up by taking a smaller hoop, or making one yourself to make the game more challenging!

Activity description

A classic game of hide and seek will never go out of style. It is a great way to stimulate your dog’s brain and make them think strategically. It is also a fantastic way to get some exercise when the rain just won’t stop and allow you to take a long walk with your hyperactive doggo. This hide and seek game though comes with a twist. Make everything more challenging by building forts, obstacles, and creating an entirely new layout of your house to make your dog think about what their next step should be!

Step
1
Set the playground
Transform your house by moving your furniture around, knocking tables on their sides, building forts from cushions and blankets, and creating obstacles with pillows and other furniture you have in your home. By changing the layout of the familiar surroundings, you are making your dog think and explore the area trying to find you, and also having loads of fun by jumping over the obstacles and crawling under furniture to reach you.
Step
2
Hide
Now it is time to hide. Find a secluded spot, perhaps in your new cushion fort, or maybe cover yourself with a blanket and crouch behind the couch? What about hiding in plain sight, behind the door, while your dog is looking for you under the bed? The options are endless; you just need to get a bit creative and make sure your foot is not sticking out from under the blanket!
Step
3
Seek
Time to seek, my friend! Your lovely doggo will run around, flipping over the cushions and pillows, crawling under the couch and sneaking behind the chair, jumping over the obstacles trying to find you. If the doggo seems a bit confused, you can whistle to give them a clue, or throw them a treat to let them know that you are in fact here, just hidden!

Activity description

If you are lucky enough to have a big backyard, use that to your advantage to play an exciting game of 13 toys! How does it work? Fairly easy! Get thirteen dog toys and hide them around the backyard, leaving a little treat next to them. You can use a piece of bacon or another dog treat to incentivize your dog to search for the toys, rewarding them with love and praise each time they manage to find one. Run around the backyard with them, sometimes pointing them in the right direction and making the game more interesting for the both of you.

Step
1
Setting
Hide thirteen toys around your backyard. Get creative and try to find the perfect spot for each toy, but make sure that your small doggo can reach the toys when they do see them. Leave little treats next to each toy, and make a treat trail to some of the better-hidden ones if needed.
Step
2
Search and praise
Release your doggo and let them look for the missing toys! Each time they manage to retrieve the treasure, reward them by telling them they are being a very good doggo and praise them each time they are on the right track. If needed, help them look for the toys and distract them by running around if you see that they are doing too well!

More Fun Ideas...

Power Walk

Since your doggo needs a lot of exercise, take them for a power walk! Just make sure to not run away from your puppy with short legs, as they may not be able to keep up at times!

Tug War

Play an exciting game of tug war with your doggo to release some of the energy they carry within. Don’t worry; the game won’t make your pup aggressive, it will just provide some fun time that you can share together.

Conclusion

Scoland Terriers are as adorable as they are energetic, so filling your day with exciting activities will surely help them lead a happy and healthy life for a long time. For at least an hour each day, try to be as active as possible, going for long walks and playing fun games, and you can rest assured that your doggo will be thankful and properly exercised.
