Skye Terriers were originally bred as hunting dogs and, Poodles were also originally hunting dogs too! Guess what that means for your Skypoo? They have a natural instinct and desire to hunt. While this particular breed has probably never been widely used in real hunting activities, your Skypoo will still love games that have hunting roots. You don't need to bring your pup out to hunt any real animals (unless you want to give that a shot!) but you can plan hunting games right at home with things that you already have around your house. Try these indoor and outdoor hunting games that your Skypoo will be sure to love.

Step
1
Treat search
One of the easiest hunting games you can try with your Skypoo is to hide their treats around your house or in your yard. Have your Skypoo sit and stay while you hide their favorite snack. Your Skypoo will then use their great sense of smell to track the location of the treats.
Step
2
Hide and seek
Another super simple way to utilize your Skypoo's love to hunt is to hide from your dog and then have them find you. Your dog will love "hunting" and search for their favorite person - you! Hide in harder and harder to find locations as your dog gets good at the game.
Step
3
Dig
Hide some treats or your dog's favorite toy outside in your yard. Try burying the toy in a shallow hole to make it even harder for your Skypoo to find. Once your dog tracks the location, they will also enjoy digging and get great satisfaction when they uncover what they are looking for.

Poodles are known to be a very smart breed (in fact, they are frequently referenced as the second smartest dog in the world with the Border Collie being number one) and this trait has definitely carried over into the Skypoo breed. You are probably already well aware of your Skypoo's smart antics so why not create activities that celebrate this intelligence? Mental exercise is just as important as physical exercise and maybe even more so in this breed who would rather play a mentally challenging game than go for a long run. Get your pup ready to play a game that is sure to keep them thinking and on their toes (or paws!).

Step
1
Puzzle toys
Get your Skypoo a few puzzle toys that they can play on their own when you have to go away from home. Most of these toys involve hiding treats inside the toy which your dog then needs to figure out how to retrieve. There are many different levels of puzzle toys so start your Skypoo off easy and then give them more challenging toys as they continue to get better.
Step
2
New tricks
Teaching your Skypoo how to do new tricks is another great way to keep their brains active and challenged. Skypoos are easily trained thanks to their natural intelligence and will happily learn any new tricks you can show them! Don't stop at "sit" or "stay" but train your Skypoo to do some cool new things as well (jump through a hoop sounds like a good place to start!).
Step
3
Feed me
Look into buying or making a dog feeder that requires your pup to press a button or pull a lever to feed themselves. This way, your Skypoo has to feed themselves! Not only will it make your dog have to think and work for their food but you don't have to worry about feeding the dog anymore!

Activity description

Skye Terriers are known for having an unparalleled loyalty to their owners. They have been known to act as "babysitters" to young kids, bark like a guard dog to protect their humans and they also like to follow their owners everywhere they go. You may be familiar with these faithful characteristics that carried over to the Skypoo breed. Skypoos truly love their owners and are very devoted pets. While you don't need to do much to bond with your Skypoo (they are likely to love you no matter what!), there are plenty of games you can play to strengthen your bond and show your Skypoo that you are just as devoted to them as they are to you!

Step
1
Timed meals
Start with an easy "game" that will show your Skypoo that you are always going to be there and that they can depend on you. Every day, set an alarm clock and, when it goes off, feed your dog immediately afterward. Being dependable about meal timing shows your dog your devotion - a well fed Skypoo is a faithful one!
Step
2
Stick together
While we all have to leave our pups behind at some point, make an effort to often bring your Skypoo along with you anywhere you go. Even if you are just taking a trip to the grocery store, let your Skypoo ride along. The less you leave your dog, the more likely they are to listen to your commands and return the devotion to you.
Step
3
Routine
Have a set routine that you and your dog follow each day. For example, if you wake up and walk your dog every day, the pattern of doing the same thing over and over again will strengthen your bond. Skypoos love schedules and dependable owners - strive to be that for your dog!

More Fun Ideas...

Toy Chase

Skypoos are hunting dogs and therefore they love to chase. Buy your Skypoo a motorized car or toy that will move with a remote so you can control the object as they chase it around.

Tug

Skypoos are big fans of playing tug and, while some people are against this game saying that it encourages bad behavior, a Skypoo's gentle temperament will allow you to play all you want!

Conclusion

If you are the proud owner of a Skypoo, then you surely love your dog - how could you not love that face and that personality! Skypoos aren’t overly energetic dogs but they are devoted, smart and do love a good game! Set time aside each day to play with your Skypoo one on one and you will, in turn, have a dog that never leaves your side. Cater to their natural hunting ability and their love for their owner and your pup will never get bored!
