Introduction

Weltadors are a beautiful breed consisting of the breeding together of Welsh Terriers and Labrador Retrievers. You will very rarely see them without a wagging tail, and they love to join households with plenty of family members and children. Weltadors are genuine family dogs. They can generally be a medium-sized dog too, getting their energy and loyalty from both parent breeds. They also like to retrieve, spend time with other dogs, and do anything that will make you happy. If you want to return the favor, compile a list of activities you can do with your Weltador. These below might be worth adding to it.

Because your Weltador has Retriever in their bloodline, you will quickly discover they are a dog that likes to bring things back to you. Let them get their dose of excitement for the day through a game of fetch. This free, sunny-day activity is one that will only require 30 minutes of your time with a toy but will make your Weltador’s day. They could happily play fetch for hours. Find an appropriate toy, head out to your fenced backyard, and let your Weltador run back and forward to their heart’s content. This activity will become their firm favorite in no time – and takes minimal effort from you.

Step
1
Choose a toy
If your Weltador takes more after your Labrador Retriever, then they will be quite gentle with any toy you give them. As a result, you won’t find it all that much of a challenge to choose a toy for a game of fetch. They won’t tear it apart unless they get bored, so you can use something you already have, or buy an aerodynamic ball or frisbee that will travel further.
Step
2
Set up
To play a proper game of fetch, you need to make sure you’re in the right situation. Preferably, you should have a fully-fenced yard with plenty of room to move. Alternatively, set up space in your home, or somewhere else, with no obstacles and plenty of room to run. If they take after the Retriever parent, they may be a little larger and can knock things over with their heavy tail.
Step
3
Fetch
Now that you have put plans in place for a successful game of fetch, you can play! Throw your Weltador's toy of choice then encourage them to retrieve it. Have treats on hand if they prefer to play with it instead of bringing the toy back to you. After half an hour of running, they will be ready for a rest.

Hula hoop
Activity description

The Weltador comes from two intelligent breeds – both of which need mental stimulation as well as physical exercise. Appeal to this trait by helping them to learn a new skill. Teaching your pooch to jump through a hula hoop is not all that challenging when you own a Weltador, and it also only requires 10-minute training sessions. What’s more, it’s affordable with treats and a hula hoop. A hula hoop is an affordable investment from most children’s toy stores. You can then begin this all-weather activity and help your dog learn a new, valuable skill that sets them up to discover more skills later.

Step
1
Hoop walk-through
Your Weltador won’t immediately jump through a hoop off the ground. You need to begin by putting the ring with the rim touching the ground, almost like the entrance to a tunnel. Hold a treat through one side and tell them to jump. The word jump will become their trigger word. If they walk through the hoop to retrieve the snack, give it to them as well as a big hug and pat. If they don’t, keep trying until they walk through.
Step
2
Raise the hoop
After repeating step one over and over, you can then raise the ring around an inch off the ground. Repeat step one, but get your dog familiar with jumping through it ever so slightly, instead of walking. Once they do this, reward them with a treat and a pat.
Step
3
Repeat
To successfully teach your dog to jump through hoops, you need to use a lot of repetition. Do step one, raise the hula hoop as you did in phase two, then praise and repeat! You will be able to lift the ring higher and higher until the mere word “jump” has them leaping through it like it’s no hard task at all.

Activity description

Weltadors are very social dogs, so if you don’t have any other pets at home, then you will need to cater to that need somehow. Regular trips to the dog park are going to be exceptionally beneficial for your Welsh Terrier and Labrador Retriever cross. They get to socialize, have fun, and burn off energy. Remember, your Weltador requires at least an hour of exercise per day. This free, sunny-day activity enables other dogs to do all the work while you watch! All you need is a park, leash, a toy, and a waste bag. Prepare your pooch for an hour of fun!

Step
1
Pick a park
You don’t have to be too selective about choosing an enclosure for your Weltador. They tend to get on with most dogs of various sizes and also don’t tend to try to do any Houdini acts to escape. Remember, they love to be by your side, so why would they want to try and leave? Therefore, the best park for your Weltador is going to be one that’s close and convenient. No other point matters all too much.
Step
2
Meet and greet
If you’re not sure how friendly other dogs are going to be, then keep your pooch on their leash and walk them around the outside of the park for dogs to come up. If your dog, or others, show any signs of aggression, you may like to take a step back and give both dogs a break. If they show all the right signs, such as a high tail and bowing down onto their front legs, then let your Weltador into the park.
Step
3
Play
Now that your Weltador is ready to play, you can unclip their leash, throw their toy, and let them play! They will love running around to their heart’s content, chasing other dogs and playing a game. If there are only a few other dogs at the park and your dog seems a little bored, you can engage them in fetch until another dog wants to play with them.

More Fun Ideas...

Water Fun

Weltadors have a double coat which means they can get quite hot in the heart of summer. If you want them to be able to cool off, then set up a paddling pool in your yard. Both the Terrier and Retriever parents love water, so there’s every reason to believe your Weltador will too.

Chew Toys

When Weltadors get bored, they tend to get destructive. If you don’t want to return home to a gaping hole in your backyard, then ensure they have enough to do to keep them occupied while you’re not there. You may find that a basket of chew toys is the very thing you need to keep them out of trouble. These are affordable and available from most pet stores.

Conclusion

You will quickly discover that a bored Weltador begins to feel quite ruff. They want you to keep them busy all the time, and they will furever be looking for ways to entertain themselves. If you invite a Weltador into your home and life, then ensure you have plenty of time for love and attention. This beautiful, loving breed wants to be a part of your life and everything you do.
