Introduction

Westillons are the result of a West Highland Terrier and a Papillon being bred. These dogs tend to be between eight and 14 pounds, which means that they are little dynamos! They don't require a lot of exercise, but they do need at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. This breed is intelligent and energetic, so they like to explore and learn. If you have a Westillon, you know how hard it can be to truly challenge these little bundles of fur.

Activity description

You've probably seen Frisbee catching competitions. They are a real treat to watch, but did you know that your Westillon could give it a try, too? As long as the weather is nice and you can acquire some treats and a Frisbee, you can teach your dog how to catch a Frisbee and possibly even compete in some Frisbee competitions. You can teach your Westillon a new skill without spending a lot of time and money on going to training classes of some kind. Just get out in your yard, and start teaching your little pooch how to catch a Frisbee.

Step
1
Introduce the Frisbee
When you want to teach your Westillon how to catch a Frisbee, the first step is introducing your pup to the Frisbee. Place it on the floor and let your dog explore it. Give your dog a treat when they touch the Frisbee. Allow them to walk on it, pick it up, and anything else that shows their interest!
Step
2
Drop the Frisbee
When dogs have a toy, they don't often like giving it up. So, you need to teach your Westillon to drop the Frisbee on command. Do this by placing the Frisbee in your dog's mouth and giving them the command to release the Frisbee. Use the same command, such as "give" each time. If your dog releases the Frisbee, then you can reward them with a treat. Keep practicing until they have it down.
Step
3
Catch the Frisbee
Once your dog has learned to drop the Frisbee on command, you can start teaching them to catch the Frisbee. You want to stand close to your pup and gently toss the Frisbee towards them. If your pooch catches the Frisbee, tell them to release it and give them a treat. Be patient as they learn this step. It may take a few sessions of play. As your pup gets the hang of it, you can gradually move further away from your dog to increase the difficulty.

Hose or Sprinkler
Activity description
Even if your dog doesn't love to swim, that doesn't mean that they can't participate in some water fun! Westillons typically love to play in water from the hose or a sprinkler. Feed your pup's love for water by making a fun game out of a hose or sprinkler. This activity does require some nice weather because you don't want your dog to be cold when wet, but other than that, it is an easy, cheap activity for you and your dog. Don't be shy! Join your dog with a romp through the sprinkler. If you have kids, they will love to splash around with your pooch.
Step
1
Proper set up
The first step to playing in the water is getting the water set up. If you are using a sprinkler, get it up and running. If you are using a hose, make sure that the nozzle on the hose doesn't spray too hard for your Westillon. You want water pressure that won't cause pain.
Step
2
Playtime
It's time for your Westillon to let loose in the water. If you have a sprinkler set up, have a little fun and run around with your pup. If you are using a hose, be sure that you are pointing the hose toward your dog, but not directly in their face. Check to make sure the pressure is okay before you start playing!

Activity description

Your dog will love being the center of attention in their very own photoshoot! Get your Westillon brushed and ready for a fun, festive photoshoot. Photos can be taken indoors, or outdoors if the weather is nice. All you need is a little free time and a camera or cell phone. If you want to incorporate props, you can have a great holiday, seasonal, or themed photoshoot for your Westillon. Once you have taken all of your images, you can pick some of your favorites and share them on social media or have them printed. It could be fun to create a space just for your dog with some of these images.

Step
1
Prep your set
Wherever you are planning to take your dog's photos will probably need a little preparation. If you are taking photos indoors, make sure to set up some quality lights. Photo shoots are more fun with props, so find a few items you want to incorporate in the images and get them set up.
Step
2
Pose your pup
Spend about 30 minutes to an hour taking some photos of your dog. You can pose your dog or use treats to get them to do what you want them to do. Use any props that you want in your photos. These photos are for you and your dog, so make them what you want them to be!
