Activity description
The herding instincts run deep in a Cardigan Welsh Corgi so why not make use of the animal's desire to herd by sharing some fun together with a game of Fetch by Name? From a young age most Cardigans have learned to fetch and love the game. It's time to take it up a notch and get more detailed with your clever pooch. The exercise is both a fun physical and mental game that is sure to keep your dog on their toes waiting to see what item to retrieve next. This game is also about teaching your dog to focus on you, which is a crucial step in creating the ideal canine companion.
Step
1
Choose a location
The game can be played indoors or outside. Obviously, if you are playing a game of fetch inside, you cannot throw the item very far but, remember, this activity is not about physical performance but instead mental. Still, when playing inside the house, clear an area in which to play the game as you don't want any broken vases or an injured pup.
Step
2
Name it, toss it
Hold up one of the objects, such as the ball, and tell your dog to go get the ball as you throw it. Do this several times. Then hold up the dumbbell and toss it telling the dog to go get the dumbbell. Perform this naming exercise with each item several times so that your dog becomes familiar with the names of each one of the items.
Step
3
Double the objects
Now, hold up two objects and toss them both but only command your dog to retrieve one of the objects such as the ball. Chances are very good that your dog will bring back the correct object to you. At this point heap praise on the pooch and offer them a tasty treat. If your dog does not bring back the correct item, start the game over with the naming process. Remember, you are not teaching your dog to retrieve but to focus so the canine knows the name of certain objects and then understands to bring them back to you.

Activity description
Your dog will need to know the sit and stay command in order to enjoy this game.  The hide and seek game is free and fun. It can be performed indoors or outside. This tried and true game teaches the Cardigan Welsh Corgi to use not only their nose but all of their senses to successfully find their owner. The herding instincts of the dog and their sensitive nose make this a favorite activity. Initially, when first playing this game with your pooch, you should always hide somewhere within your dog's hearing range so they can detect your voice but not actively see you.
Step
1
Sit and stay
It is imperative that your dog knows the sit and stay command to truly enjoy this game. However, you can play with another human partner if your pooch has not mastered the command. You will have your dog sit and stay while you seek out a place to hide out of the dog's vision. If your furry buddy refuses to sit still and stay then have a friend hold your dog.
Step
2
Call out
Once you are hidden it is time to command your pooch to find you. Remember, your Cardigan Welsh Corgi has a keen sense of hearing so there is no reason to call out loudly. Simply command your dog to find you one time. If a friend is holding your dog, then your friend will let the dog go at the time you call out to them.
Step
3
The search
After hearing your command, your dog should start to search for you. Your pooch will use their hearing and scent senses to detect you. Once your dog successfully finds you, heap praise on them so there is no doubt that your dog has won the game. You can even give the doggy yummy treats in celebration.

Activity description
Across the nation have emerged many doggy spas where you can take Fido for a day of pampering fun. Such establishments allow you to use their facilities to wash your dog yourself. They provide ample shampoo and conditioner choices for all fur types. Once you wash Fido, you are allowed to blow dry your pooch before heading out the door. Although many pet owners might argue that they can shampoo their dog at home, it's not just about the bath. The entire action is a bonding experience, and at the facility, you have a wide choice of fur conditioners and other items that make the outing even more enjoyable.
Step
1
Entering the facility
When you first enter a doggy bathing salon you will see numerous raised bathtubs where you can place your short-legged Welsh Cardigan Corgi so you don't have to end over during the bathing process. Your dog might hesitate at the bathtub but allow your pooch to sniff around the facility before lifting them up into the tub.
Step
2
Bathing
There is usually an area where you can hook your dog's leash so you don't have to worry about Fido jumping out and vacating the premises. Offer ample praise as you adjust the water temperature and stare wetting your dog's coat. Apply shampoo to the dog's fur and work it in. Rinse, and then use a smell-good conditioner to add shine and softness to your dog's coat.
Step
3
Blow drying
After bathing, dry your pooch with a towel and then head to the blow dryer. You will place your dog on a raised table and use one of the innumerable blow dryers to gently dry your dog's fur. If your pooch is not used to the blow dryer they might be a little frightened at first. Offer lots of encouragement and a few doggy treats. Remember, the entire spa day is all about having fun with your dog and focusing on their needs.

Create a Painting Together

Many people enjoy painting but did you ever think that your dog might also like the activity? You can purchase some non-toxic paints from the craft store that won't harm your dog. Choose either canvas or heavy-duty paper for your first painting endeavor together. Pick a location outdoors to minimize clean up.  It's time to make paw prints together! Have your Cardigan Welsh Corgi sit beside you while you take one of their feet and dip the pads in the paint. Let your dog step on the canvas or paper to leave a paw print. It doesn't have to be perfect but this is a great way to create a memento of your furry friend. You can also dip your hand in the paint to make a handprint right beside your pooch's mark. When you are finished, you can frame and hang the masterpiece.

Pet Friendly B & B

Throughout the nation, there are numerous pet-friendly B & B's where you and your pooch can just get away from it all. Why not pick one located in the country so you can stroll around a lake or along numerous trails with your furry companion? Most of the pet-friendly bed and breakfast locations offer doggy biscuits, toys, and other perks to make your pet's stay special. They are a fun way to get away for the weekend with your pet. Remember to pack your dog's food on the trip because a drastic change in your pooch's diet can upset their tummy.

Conclusion

The Cardigan Welsh Corgi loves spending time with humans who are young or old. This dog's superior intelligence and love of activity makes them an excellent choice for a wide array of fun activities. You might want to consider actively pursuing a therapy dog course so you can take your loving furry friend into hospitals or senior centers to socialize. Undoubtedly, your pooch would bring unlimited happiness and smiles to everyone they visit. You could also enroll the happy imp in an obedience class or join a flyball team. Some of the Cardigan Welsh Corgis also enjoy agility tournaments.
