Introduction

Japillons are unique and rare hybrid toy dogs crossed between purebred Japanese Chins and Papillons. Although both the Chin and Papillon are native to two different geographical locations, they are very alike.

These hybrid pups share both of the parent traits of being small in stature with a fluffy coat, having a rounded face with round black eyes, and rounding off the look with a soft, fluffy tail. Japillons have a sweet disposition but do not like to be separated from their family.

Acknowledged as a designer dog and recognized by the main national canine clubs, these adorable miniature dogs will be the hit of every get-together, but don’t let that sweet face fool you. If you don’t keep the energetic Japillons exercised and entertained, they will find a way to get in trouble. Thirty minutes to an hour of exercise a day, broken into smaller segments because they may tire quickly, is recommended.

Activity description
Japillons are very social and eager to please their owners. These feisty little pups know they are cute, too, and love to show off. An excellent way to wear out your designer dog is to play dress-up and let them pose for pictures. As gorgeous as Japillons are, you are sure to get good shots no matter where you are.

You might be tempted to spoil your pup by carrying them to all of the new photo shoots, but remember that getting them exercise is the primary focus of this activity and let them walk when possible.

As you move Fido around from venue to venue, changing outfits along the way and rewarding good poses with clapping and hugs, you'll be making memories that will last a lifetime as you tire them out naturally.

Step
1
Find a venue
You've scrolled through social media and seen the cute puppy pictures of them frolicking through the fields of flowers. Unless you are a professional photographer, you probably aren't going to get many shots of Fido doing this as you are more than likely running after your pup instead. However, you can find a location for your pictures that is not quite as wide open and less distracting, so Fido can focus on you and the camera instead of the butterflies flying by.
Step
2
Gather your props
This can be as easy or as complicated as you'd like it to be. Now that you know where you are shooting your pictures, you can find outfits to match. Your Japillon is tiny, so you can try everything from carved out pumpkins for a fall theme to picnic baskets full of flowers for a spring look. Go wild and have fun -- Fido will!
Step
3
Have patience and take pictures
The odds of Fido staying still for you to get those perfect pictures on the first, second, or even tenth shot are slim to none. Patience is key to this activity, and just remember the goal is exercise, not necessarily the outcome of the picture. That's just a bonus. And all of the candid pics you get as Fido is being silly might be even better than that coveted posed shot!

Harness
Carrier
Waste Bags
Activity description
Japillons love to be out around people and they are small enough to fit in a carrier or puppy stroller while they are in the store. If you have dog-friendly shops in your area, especially in a mall setting where you can walk from one store to the next and exercise your pup, you and Fido will both have a great time. Just remember that Japillons love to bark, so if you don't have the "quiet" command under control quite yet, you might want to work on this training before you hit the public shopping centers. Letting your pup strut their stuff on a short leash and harness will give them the attention they crave, too.
Step
1
Do your research first
Not every store and restaurant in an area will be dog-friendly. Some will allow dogs on leashes or in carriers only, while others refuse all but service pets. If you do your research, you can find the shopping areas that have the most pet-supportive places in one convenient location and plan your doggy day out there.
Step
2
Train Fido in shopping etiquette
If you plan on using a puppy carrier or stroller (or even your big handbag), it's important to get Fido used to this method of transportation before you head out for your shopping trip. You may find that surprising your pup with what you thought was a fun excursion is scary and overwhelming to them if you haven't prepared them ahead of time. Focus on the "quiet" command, give Fido plenty of opportunities to travel around your neighborhood in the carrier or stroller, and when you feel that they are relaxed and ready, hit the stores.
Step
3
Shop til you and Fido drop
When you plan for the day, pack a harness, water bottle, treats, and poop bags for Fido. This will ensure that they last as long as you (and your wallet) do. The harness can be used as you are transitioning from store to store so that Fido gets the exercise -- the whole purpose of the activity -- and gets to strut their stuff and get attention.

Stay Cool - Get Wet!

Kiddie Pool
Sprinklers
Towel
Activity description
Your Japillon is full of energy, but those little legs tire out fast. Because of this, Fido might prefer a kiddie pool where their paws can touch the ground rather than swimming in a deeper pool with you. On those hot "dog days" of summer, you and your pup can find lots of ways to stay cool by getting wet. A garden hose, some sprinklers, and a miniature pool are all you need to get Fido all of the exercise necessary to tucker the little toy pup out. And along the way, you can have some cooling relief from the heat of the day!
Step
1
Gather your pool items
You don't have to use the pool and the sprinklers both, but Fido is sure to have a great time bouncing in and out of the pool and running through the drizzles if that's what you choose. Whatever you decide to use, gather your goods and set everything up for use. Fill the pool up to your pup's paws or knees, depending on the dog, but no deeper. You might even want to splurge on some water toys for extra excitement!
Step
2
Don't forget, safety first!
Before you get started with the fun, consider both yours and Fido's safety. Sunblock is important -- and yes, for your pup, too! Dogs can get sunburnt on their sensitive areas, most commonly on the nose, ears, and tummy. You can use canine sunblock or find human sunblock for children and sensitive skin, but lotion up! Don't forget the towels, too, or you may have a mess when it's time to go inside.
Step
3
Time to play
Now that the safety features are all taken care of, it's time to play! Turn the sprinklers on, let the hose do its job, and set Fido free! At first, you'll probably have to demonstrate all of the fun sprinklers and pools are, but Fido will catch on quickly. Don't stay out too long, though. Thirty minutes of this activity is more than enough, and definitely long enough for you and your pup to be out in the direct sun!

More Fun Ideas...

Splurge on an Overnight Trip

If your pup doesn't mind getting out of the house (some dogs get separation anxiety even with their families if they are away from their known surroundings), it can be fun to load up and stay at a pet-friendly hotel or bed and breakfast. Get away from the rat race of daily living. Relax and let someone pamper you both or make it an adventure and plan some excitement! No matter what, you and Fido will enjoy exploring the surroundings wherever you go. Just make sure you take time to let your pup stop and smell the new roses (and everything else) along the way!

Go to a Drive-in Movie

Drive-in theaters were once a dying breed, but they are making a comeback. If you live in a city lucky enough to have a location offering outdoor movies, or one nearby, you have everything you need for an exciting activity with Fido. Most drive-in theaters are pet-friendly, so if you grab a blanket, a picnic, and a harness and leash, you can bring your dog and enjoy a movie out under the stars. You'll need to pack snacks and a water dish for Fido, as well as poop bags. Settle in and enjoy a relaxing evening snuggling with your pup!

Conclusion

Japillons are an energetic toy designer breed that love to please their family. As long as you give them the attention they demand and keep them exercised, they are a great pet for any home. Your pup is very social, so be sure to plan activities and events that get them out so they can show off, like taking puppy pictures, going shopping, or enjoying a night under the stars at a drive-in movie. Even though Japillons are energetic, they tire quickly because they are so little, so keep the activities broken into smaller chunks and always watch your pup for signs of overheating or overwhelm. You've got a designer dog; enjoy showing Fido off and having fun!
