The Tibetan Wolfhound is a hybrid dog that results from crossing an Irish Wolfhound with a Tibetan Mastiff. Tibetan Wolfhounds are considered designer dog breeds - breeds created with the intention of taking the best traits of two dogs and mixing them into one. Their status as designer dogs also dates the Tibetan Wolfhound somewhat, as most designer dog breeds came into existence around the late 1980's, early 1990's. These new pups on the block tend to have thick coats, large frames, and very calm dispositions in most scenarios. These breeds also really enjoy engaging in a variety of activities rather than rigidly adhering to a strict regimen.
As the owner of a Tibetan Wolfhound, we encourage you to think of yourself as an ambassador for these dogs - due to them being so new, most people know very little about them. This can often lead people to come up with a variety of misconceptions about these breeds as well as jumping to conclusions when facts aren't available. That's where we encourage you to come in; dispel the rumors that surround many designer dogs like your Tibetan Wolfhound by giving them numerous opportunities to socialize with others and get active in your community. Tibetan Wolfhounds have the potential to make great pets for a wide assortment of dog owners, they just need to be given a chance.
