Introduction

The Tibetan Wolfhound is a hybrid dog that results from crossing an Irish Wolfhound with a Tibetan Mastiff. Tibetan Wolfhounds are considered designer dog breeds - breeds created with the intention of taking the best traits of two dogs and mixing them into one. Their status as designer dogs also dates the Tibetan Wolfhound somewhat, as most designer dog breeds came into existence around the late 1980's, early 1990's. These new pups on the block tend to have thick coats, large frames, and very calm dispositions in most scenarios. These breeds also really enjoy engaging in a variety of activities rather than rigidly adhering to a strict regimen.

Activity description
The first activity on our list can really serve as a great way to help your pet develop the muscles and coordination needed to participate in Strength Training exercises. As the name of this activity suggests, you and your dog will be working out on an inclined surface of some kind so that your dog's muscles can adapt to training on uneven ground. Training on an inclined surface such as a hill, a mountain slope, or even at an area like the beach can help your dog's leg muscles become that much more refined. You won't need much for this activity either - a few of your dog's favorite toys will do just fine.
Step
1
Walking uphill
One activity you and your Tibetan Wolfhound can engage in can be completed while the two of you are walking up to the top of the hill. You'll immediately notice how much more taxing doing anything on an inclined surface is as opposed to doing it on even ground, but the added challenge will help your legs, as well as your dog's legs, become so much stronger than they were.
Step
2
Inclined Frisbee
Earlier, we recommended that you bring a Frisbee along for this activity. The reason for that suggestion is the drastic difference between playing Frisbee with your dog on an inclined surface vs. playing Frisbee on a level surface. The both of you will get a workout here and your dog will learn how to stay balanced on inclined terrain.

Activity description
As important as it is to make sure that your dog's body is strong and that they're physically healthy, it's always a good idea to introduce your dog to activities that train their brains as well. Dog Puzzles can be great tools to help your Tibetan Wolfhound learn how to think outside of the box in order to solve various problems. It can also instill the idea, inside your pet's mind, that they'll have to work for their rewards and strive to stay sharp in between the ears. You know the old saying after all; "a mind is a terrible thing to waste."
Step
1
Get to know the puzzle
Before you let your dog at the Dog Puzzle you've just got for them, we think that you should mess around with it for a bit. Learn the in's and out's of the puzzle so that you can really understand how a particular dog toy works. Once you've gotten to know a dog toy like the back of your hand, you'll be able to tell when your dog is on track to solving the puzzle while they're playing with it and when they're starting to veer off course.
Step
2
Practice and patience
Those are the two things you and your dog will need to really get the hang of Dog Puzzles. All dogs are different, so your Tibetan Wolfhound may acclimate to these puzzles faster or slower than another member of their breed. In all honesty, it doesn't really matter how quickly they figure the puzzle out the first time. What matters is how adept they'll become after they've been able to spend enough time playing with their puzzle.

Activity description
This activity may not be too unconventional compared to the others we've featured on our lists, but it certainly is one that shouldn't be overlooked. For many types of dogs, Obedience Training can be intriguing and different. But for dogs like Tibetan Wolfhounds, it's absolutely crucial to ensuring that they become the best dog they can be. Tibetan Mountain dogs are naturally very energetic and spry dogs who love to play around and be very physical with humans and other animals alike. Their large frames give them a lot of energy and power, but with great power comes great responsibility. Obedience Training can help your dog become more responsible and learn how to better manage their inborn energy.
Step
1
Find the right course
Obedience Training courses are offered for all types of dogs for all types of reasons; some obedience trainers specialize in getting dogs into shape to perform at conformation shows. Others have specifically geared themselves towards working with certain types of dogs and becoming really great at it. Take as much time as you need to find the right trainer for your dog.
Step
2
Commit 100%
There's going to come a point during the training process where it seems like the entire affair may be too overwhelming; maybe it might seem like your dog isn't retaining the information that's being given to them or that they aren't progressing fast enough. We urge you to remain patient throughout the process and to see the entire training through despite any of the negative feelings that you may feel during Obedience Training. Your dog will never quit on you, so we implore you to afford them the same respect. Practice at home - this will give your pup the opportunity to succeed.

Treasure Hunting

This is another activity that calls for your Tibetan Wolfhound to use their sense of smell in a creative and unconventional way. For this activity, you'll need to get a few of your dog's favorite toys. Then you'll need to bury them underneath a small mound of dirt, grass, or snow. After that, let your dog use their sense of smell to find their "treasure" so to speak.

Hide and Seek

An oldie but a goodie to be sure, Tibetan Wolfhounds tend to like this activity a lot due to the need for them to put their naturally refined senses of smell to good use. For an added challenge, you can try this activity at a large area like a park or at the beach.

Conclusion

As the owner of a Tibetan Wolfhound,  we encourage you to think of yourself as an ambassador for these dogs - due to them being so new, most people know very little about them. This can often lead people to come up with a variety of misconceptions about these breeds as well as jumping to conclusions when facts aren't available. That's where we encourage you to come in; dispel the rumors that surround many designer dogs like your Tibetan Wolfhound by giving them numerous opportunities to socialize with others and get active in your community. Tibetan Wolfhounds have the potential to make great pets for a wide assortment of dog owners, they just need to be given a chance.
