Dogs who are made from a mix between two purebred breeds are called hybrid or designer dogs. These new dog types have become a trend and can be found all around the world. Despite the popularity of designer dogs, not much is documented on the creation of most breeds. Therefore, we must consider the characteristics of the parents in order to determine many traits of the hybrid dogs. The Mini Foxton was created from a Boston Terrier and a Mini Fox Terrier. Boston Terriers are dogs who have been gradually bred down in size from various bull and terrier types who were used in pit-fighting. The first of the breed was a mix between the English Bulldog and the English White Terrier, which is now an extinct breed, and originated from Boston Massachusetts, hence the name. Interbreeding began among the wealthy employers of coachmen around the year 1865. A dog named Hooper’s Judge was created from an English White Terrier and an English Bulldog, and he was an important part of the foundation of the breed. He was bred with smaller females, which gradually brought down the breed’s average size. Mini Fox Terriers came from Australia in the 1800s, although their descendants were Fox Terrier types that originated from England. The early settlers are the ones who brought these dogs to Australia, where the little Smooth Fox Terriers were bred with Manchester Terriers. The offspring of this combination were eventually crossed with Whippets, English Toy Terriers and Italian Greyhounds. The goal was to create a smaller version of the Fox Terrier, all the while keeping the characteristics that made them so skilled at hunting. They eventually perfected a small dog that would be used to hunt smaller prey, like rodents and rabbits.
