Dodoma Dog Names in Pop Culture
Zuzu is an administrative ward located in the Dodoma Urban district of Tanzania’s Dodoma Region. Zuzu is also the name of a German Shepherd mix who found herself at a shelter, only to see her family visit not to pick her up, but to adopt another dog. Fortunately, the two year old pup found a new home with a Los Angeles couple, Judith and Russ Gallo who saw her story when it went viral.
Many people saw the video taken of Zuzu at the Downey Animal Care Center where she had wound up after staff found her wandering the area and assumed she was a stray. The video shows Zuzu happily wagging her tail hoping to be brought back home when her former owners arrived at the shelter.
When her old owners arrived, staff (and Zuzu) assumed they had come to take her home. They were shocked when they admitted that they had allowed Zuzu to escape. They explained that Zuzu had become depressed since her father had died and was no longer desirable to them because she was unhappy. They said that they were at the shelter to find a new dog to replace her.
As her story spread, Zuzu was taken in by the Pet Adoption Fund, which is a no-kill shelter that seeks to rehome dogs that have been abandoned. Pet Adoption Fund received many offers to bring Zuzu home but decided on the Gallos, who were looking for a pup that would keep their dog Dodger, whose companion recently passed away, company.
Zuzu’s new family first heard about her when her story went viral. Sadly, within hours, of learning about her, their rescue dog Dinky, died. After his death, the couple went home and again saw Zuzu’s story on tv.
Mr. Gallo stated, “I’m not sure why Dinky decided on that day of all days to take a new journey with his soul and to move on, but he did and at that moment I knew that whatever we needed to do, whatever we could do, we needed to try to adopt Zuzu”. Zuzu settled into the couple's home where she and Dodger immediately greeted one another with their tails wagging.
Downey Shelter staff had described how Zuzu “lit up like a Christmas tree at the sight of her old owners”, only to have them pass her by. Their solution for her unhappiness was to just leave her at the shelter. Fortunately, Zuzu has a happy ending.
