Dog Names that Start with 'Wo' in Pop Culture
Won Ton Ton was a German Shepherd hero of the 1976 movie Won Ton Ton - The Dog Who Saved Hollywood. This movie was a spinoff based on the career of the hero dog, Rin Tin Tin, who was also a German Shepherd. While the movie did not become a major hit like many thought it would, it did have plenty of famous movie stars to back it up such as Teri Garr, Ethel Merman, Phil Silvers, Ron Leibman, Art Carney, Madeline Kahn, and Bruce Dern.
The movie starts out about a mutt who is discovered by a movie studio’s bus driver who soon earns the trust and love of everyone he meets. However, being based on Rin Tin Tin’s movie star life, it misses out on much of his life before he became famous and jumps right into his rise to fame. Although most of the movie is a comedic mockery of Rin Tin Tin, the movie also shows the sides of Hollywood stardom that is not as fun as we all may think and Won Ton Ton proves himself to be a hero even off the stage by saving the female star (Madeline Kahn) from some risky relations.
Another famous pooch with a name that starts with ‘Wo’ is Woofster, who is Whyatt Beanstalk’s dog in the animated television series, Super Why. This is a show that teaches kids about reading and spelling as well as working together. Whyatt and his furiends Red Riding Hood, Pig, Audience Kid, and Princess Pea all get together to help preschool kids become better readers, and Woofster joins the crew in season two when Whyatt and his family adopt him.
Woofster is a Golden Retriever puppy with light brown spots and wears a blue cape that has a mini orange dictionary with a bone on the cover hanging from it. Woofster uses his dictionary when he needs dictionary power to look up words that the kids may not know to help them understand. When Woofster is using his super dictionary power, he is able to speak to the kids, but he does not have his own Why Flyer. He rides with Whyatt.
Some of Woofster’s famous quotes include, “Give your tail a wag,” “Woofster to the rescue,” “With my doggy dictionary, I can tell you what any word means,” and “Woof-de-doo.” When Woofster is in his original puppy form, his name is just Puppy, but when he is using his superpowers, they call him Woofster, which is a play on words mixing Webster’s (dictionary) and Woof.
