Introduction

The Norwegian Lundehund is an interesting spitz-type breed with several very unique traits. They have extra paw pads and six toes that fully function, their ears can fold shut, their neck is flexible enough to touch the back of their head to their spine, and their shoulders are also flexible allowing their forelegs to move out perpendicular to their body. The Norwegian Lundehund originated on the island of Vaeroy, just off of Norway’s coast and was used to hunt puffin on the rocky cliffs. They are the only dog breed that was developed to hunt puffin and now with the puffin being protected, the Norwegian Lundehund is out of a job but has become a friendly family companion.

Norwegian Lundehund Dog Name Considerations

The main thing to remember when you decide to bring a Norwegian Lundehund into your home is they can be escape artists because they can contort their body and squeeze through small spaces. Finding a name for this happy, energetic little dog should not be difficult, especially if you begin your search by going through Norwegian names and looking for names that are easier to pronounce and sound similar to common names without being generic. For instance, Edvard and Aksel sound similar to Edward and Axel but have a distinctive Scandinavian twist. Since the Norwegian Lundehund can contort their bodies, you may like the name Hemming which means changing shape. When searching for a name for your new Norwegian Lundehund puppy, avoid names that sound like any commands you will be using in their training or names that are already popular in your neighborhood. You do not want to create confusion by saddling them with a name that is overused. Take some time to learn about your new puppy’s personality before picking their name; many times they will have some type of personality quirk that will help you find the right name. Despite what you do decide to name your Norwegian Lundehund, they will become a wonderful member of your family.
