On August 25, 1939, the iconic movie Wizard of Oz made its debut. The film was based on a children's book written in 1900 by L. Frank Baum. It was filmed in Culver City, Calfornia at the MGM Studios. When it first appeared at the box office it was an instant success. As the years, passed the movie's popularity only grew. In 1956, it was finally televised and at least 45 million people viewed the show. The film has become the most watched classic of all time.

The movie was nominated for six academy awards. It was also the catalyst that pushed Judy Garland to stardom in her role as Dorothy, the small Kansas farm girl who is hurled over the rainbow with her tiny dog to the magical Land of Oz by a tornado.

From the moment that viewers saw the movie they instantly fell in love with the small Terrier named Toto.
